Artist's Statement - I’ve spent a lifetime observing the world around me, and capturing it on canvas. Although I have experimented with a number of subjects over the years, at heart I am essentially a figurative artist, and much of my recent work continues to reflect that. My paintings explore the intersection of memory, nostalgia and the quiet dignity of an earlier time by filtering vintage subject matter through a modern figurative sensibility. I draw inspiration from vintage ephemera, retro portraiture, and everyday moments of bygone eras, extracting human subjects from their sepia-toned past, and reanimating them with saturated, deliberate color palettes, turning historical artifacts into immediate, living dialogues.

Compositionally, I disrupt conventional portrait framing through the use of distorted angles, dramatic foreshortening and unexpected, sometimes exaggerated perspectives. This playful manipulation of space creates a sense of whimsy and subtle theatricality. It challenges passive viewing, placing the spectator into a dynamic, slightly off-balance relationship with the canvas.

While grounded in the expressive physical properties and psychology of the human figure, each piece balances reverence for classic design with a lighthearted, modern rhythm. By juxtaposing retro elegance with graphic abstraction and humor, my work celebrates the timeless quirks of the human condition, and prompts the viewers to rediscover history as something vivid, joyful, and continually open to reinterpretation.

Biography - Born and raised in Connecticut, I have had a lifelong love affair with New England and all of its iconic imagery and history. Throughout a career spanning over thirty-five years, my award-winning work has been featured in print and in galleries around New England, and can be found in private and corporate collections throughout the USA and abroad.
